Looking at the relatively low risk of bonds especially government bonds it is tempting to believe that independent buyers should be able to make decisions without a great deal of risk. And that is true. But is the real concern how much money is protected from loss? Or is the real question how much money can be made?
When that question is considered it requires looking further into what is available. What do the experts have that individual investors do not and would using those tools be worth the cost of using experts.
That question will naturally depend on more factors then can be listed here but one thing to consider is what the experts call a Bond Trading System.
This is more the triumph of computer programming then it is any great expertise at predicting the future, but none the less these complicated software systems are very helpful if not essential to making the greatest possible return on bond investments because they calculate bond pricing, track the investor's portfolio, execute trades and determine risk management.
There are, as might be guessed, a seemingly endless number of these types of programs, some of which were designed by specific bond trading firms for their purposes and others that were designed to meet more general needs. And although these can be acquired and used by individual investors something that must be considered is does the software really replace human expertise. Since that is doubtful the idea of using an investment firm with a good bond trading system has some merit.
It is said that all models for bond trading systems use the same investment strategies and trading parameters, but it would be na?ve to assume that means all bond trading systems are created equal.
Sadly nothing will probably ever replace all the labors that come in investments especially the labor of doing research and trying to learn what will really works best for any individual.
There are tools and there are experts that can dramatically improve the rate of investment but that that expertise can never replace the investor being an expert on at least what they want. |
