City College Courses

City college courses can simply mean taking courses in a city but it is often referred to certain colleges in the United States and elsewhere which call themselves City College. For example, there is City College Norwich, in the UK that offers city college courses, there is a City College in Australia and a few City Colleges all over the United States. It can get confusing if all you know is that you want to take city college courses but you don't necessarily want to take them in your own city. You are going to need to know which city college courses you are talking about especially if you are concerned about the reputation of the college or if there are specific city college courses that you are looking for which may not be featured elsewhere.

Sometimes students want to take city college courses with a certain professor who is renown in a certain field. In that case you would not only have to make sure your city college courses are available at the City College you are thinking about but that the actual professor you really want teaches there.

In the United States there is City College of San Francisco on the west coast and the very famous City College in New York City on the east coast. Many city colleges are named that way to reflect that they are the higher education center for the city that they are established in such as Fresno, or Sacramento City Colleges. The old term for City College used to be community college. The advantages of taken city college courses is that they are often more affordable than the big universities courses.

In the United States city college courses are usually geared for a two-year program, which leads to an associate degree. In Quebec, Canada, public colleges are also called CEGEP and are two-year programs after which students can go onto university if they wish for a four-year bachelor program. In the USA after students finish their city college courses and continue at university they only need to take two more years at university to obtain a bachelor's degree. Students also have the option to bypass city college courses and go directly to university for a four-year bachelor program.
