Credit Report Check Free

There are three important credit bureaus which record all the credit and other financial activities of people. These bureaus provide one credit report check for free to each individual every year. You can do a credit report check for free online by going to AnnualCreditReport.com and requesting for a report. You can also put in your request by phone on (877)322-8228. A written request also can be sent by completing a request form and mailing it to the Annual Credit Report Request Service.

The FCRA (Fair Credit Reporting Act) has made it mandatory that every citizen is entitled to a free credit report every year. This way the people can themselves check their own credit status, become aware of any identity theft and also make sure that they are treated fairly by lending companies.

A credit report is an important document and it contains your full credit history. It lists all your payments, your different accounts, and the balances in each. It has a full record of your different payment histories and all the outstanding loan amounts standing against your name. These credit reports, form the basis of credit scores, which are awarded to gauge the credit worthiness of a person. These credit scores are used by lenders, insurers and employers to make a fast check on your credit rating and they form their decisions based on these reports and scores.

Since the information on this document is so important, one must make it a point to do a credit report check for free, at least once a year. It will give you an overall summary of all your credit activities at a glance and you can have a fair idea of how lending companies view you. All the information about your different credit cards, loans, mortgages, utility bills, store cards, and shopping catalogues are available to you at one place. With all this information you have a chance to plan your financial activities in a better way and also find ways to reduce your overall debt.

One of the main dangers online today is identity theft. Many people are not even aware that their personal information has been stolen and is being used to siphon off money or get services in their names. A free credit report check will show you if anybody is doing any financial or credit activity using your name or address. If someone is using your name and address for securing a loan, or has used your credit card you will instantly come to know through the credit report and can at once report the fraud to the authorities.
