This requirement is quite vital to the individual as it helps in knowing your ratings as viewed by potential financing institutions and any other party with whom you might want to do business.

The annual credit report can be obtained free of charge fro the three consumer reporting companies in the U.S. These are TransUnion, Equifax and Experian. The federal law further gives you the right to decide at what time you want to get your free credit annual report from any of the three consumer reporting companies. It is important however to note that the three consumer reporting companies are not required to provide you with your free credit annual report unless you submit your application for the same.

What do I need to do to get my free credit annual report?

The process is pretty simple, the first step is to get the credit report form and dully fill it up and submit it to any or all of the three consumer reporting companies depending on whether you want all the three reports at once or not. The application can be submitted online or through the print and post mail. All the online applications can be done by logging into the official website; anualcreditreport.com. On the other hand I you opt to use printed mail, you can first visit the ftc.gov/credit website and download and printable form at no cost. After filling out the form, you can submit it to Annual Credit Report Request Service, P.O.Box 105281, Atlanta, GA 30348-5281. On the application form, you must include your personal information such as your name and address as well as the social security number. It is lastly important to note that you may have to provide the former residential address if you have changed your physical address within the last two years.

How do I get my free annual report after application?

It is quite important to note that the consumer reporting companies do not issue any reports through email. This therefore means that regardless of the method of application you use to submit your application, the report will only come through post mail to your postal address. The report may take about seven to ten days to get to your address from the application date.
