Point of sale or POS is a very frequently used sales promotion technique. It refers to the way in which the customers are tempted to buy certain commodities or products. Point of sales technique can be found at cash counters or at exits etc. they are used to draw and attract the customers to the various offers as well as the new products that are now being available. As it is found at the place where the billing is mainly done, that is what the name suggests Point Of Sale.

Initially the point of sale was the traditional cash register, receipt printer, bar code reader, display etc. Automated or not, but because of today’s advanced technology, the point of sale concept has now become much broader. It now involves a lot of various other features and frills attached, such as sensor detection billing, touch screen, automated inventory and cash management, to name a few. This has not only increased the convenience to the employers by leaps and bounds, but it also ensures that there is a correct record of all the inventory and thus this reduces the chances of pilferage and various other problems that one might have to face while running a store or any place where sale might take place.

The point of sale also enables you to order your stock, place the order, make the necessary payment, as well as find out other information that may be required.

All business activities are under taken with the aim of making a profit, and this is possible only when you have sufficient sales to cover costs plus other expenditure. At the same time, one can increase the sales only if the customers are loyal and happy. Customers become loyal only when they are provided with the best service, both during as well as after sales services. This is made possible only when there is hassle free treatment which is most pleasing.

Another very important aspect is the speed with which transactions take place. Speed alone cannot satisfy your customer, as what is the use of speed when the system is not accurate and reliable.
