Goldman Sachs Mutual Funds

The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. is a firm that provides financial services to a wide range of customers. These clients can include governments, corporations, financial institutions and some of the more wealthy individuals all over the world.

Goldman Sachs began its life in 1869. The firm has its headquarters in New York City, but also manages offices in Frankfurt, Tokyo, Hong Kong and London. The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. became a publicly held company on May 4, 1999, when it first traded on the New York Stock Exchange.

It prides itself on doing all it can to offer its clients the best research and analysis of demographic shifts and business trends. Goldman Sachs says it also builds relationships in the marketplace in order to try and offer unconventional solutions to its customers.

There are three main areas of the company in which it professes to divide its activities, attention and business focus. These are the segments of trading and principal investments, investment banking and asset management and securities services.

As a global financial service institution, the Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. offers governments, corporations, financial institutions and individuals with several investment banking solutions. This includes the broad areas of advising, financing and investing.

The trading and principal investments part of Goldman Sachs is typically managed by the Global Investment Strategies group (GIS). They are the people who tackle global strategic asset allocation, liability-driven investing and active risk budgeting for institutions. They consider options in fixed income products, currencies, equity products, commodities and derivatives for their clients.

The asset management and securities services at Goldman Sachs is the branch of the firm that advises clients on financial planning services and also offers them investment products. These products are often offered through some commingled accounts and other accounts, like mutual funds, which are managed separately.

Also under the broad asset management and securities umbrella, Goldman Sachs provides prime brokerage services. Some of the other offerings are securities lending services and financing services to its institutional clients all around the world. These products can include pension funds and foundations, mutual funds and hedge funds.
