Money Market Mutual Fund

The money market mutual fund is a global network of financiers and other investors trading the short-term debt instruments, known as bonds, corporations, and Government Issue to meet these short-term commitments. The money market mutual fund is a mutual fund of sorts using the financier's money to buy the short-term bonds.

Financiers receive payment by the interest from the bonds earned and any service fees deducted in kind. There are five simple yet explicit rules to follow to learn how to understand the money market mutual fund.

  •
  • The money market mutual fund is an investment fund.
  • The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) insures the money market mutual fund.
  • The money market mutual fund is the uniform and regulated.
  • The money market mutual fund is a uniform savings account.
  • The money market mutual fund does not charge a load or the service fee.

The funds provide a current prospectus disclosing the fund's history and a perspective of the performance. The service fees and the additional details of the management are to adhere to with terms and conditions the investor agrees to. This is to display for all investors to read and acknowledge, yet based on trust.

Money market mutual fund, in practice, is a form of savings account recognized by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and highly regulated. The one difference between the money market mutual fund and bank savings accounts is the interest paid is at a higher percentage. Financiers opening a money market mutual fund account are able to write a limited number of checks on a monthly cycle. The one steadfast requirement with the money market mutual fund is to maintain a minimum balance consistently. The reason is because the bonds held in the investor's portfolio are constantly evolving to maturity and replaced.

One of the interesting facets of the money market mutual fund is the funds are not taxable income. This in itself is a major loophole many financiers are willing to take on short-term basis. Over time the investments in the portfolio expand and grow leaving a full nest of funds.
