A Shares - Class A shares as it pertains to mutual funds is one of several share classes. The most common ones are Class A, Class B and Class C. Class A shares carry a front-end load, which means there is a sales charge that is taken immediately from the purchase of your shares, and therefore reduces the amount of shares you will own. However, if you buy a certain amount of shares you can have what is known as a breakout. These shares come with several breakouts and will reduce the cost of the front end load. An investor may also qualify for these breakouts by sending a letter of intend to indicate that they choose to buy more shares in a specific set period of time (most often 13 months). Class A shares are good if you plan on keeping them long-term. |
