Big Board - A big board is the largest and the oldest United States Stock Exchange, which is in New York City on the famous Wall Street. This board is responsible for supervising member activities, setting policies, evaluating applicants, and overseeing transfers of member's seats. The big board opened in 1792 when a bunch of brokers met under a tree in Manhattan and agree to trade securities, after signing an agreement. Unlike modern exchanges, the big board still uses the trading floor to conduct all its transactions. On the floor, representatives of both sellers and buyers, known as brokers, meet and shout out prices to other brokers in order to set a deal. |
