Certificate of Stock
- A certificate of stock is a document used to reflect the legal ownership
of a specific number of a corporation's stock shares that are also
called stock certificates. A stock certificate or certificate
of stock represents one unit of ownership in a firm, company, or corporation,
limited partnership, or mutual fund. Shareholders in these forms
of business ownership are always the last to receive money back on their
investment in company shares if the company falters or has to liquidate
quickly. In a bankruptcy situation, most shareholders only receive
a percentage, if they are lucky, of their money back.
