Dummy CUSIP - a dummy CUSIP is a number issued to a stock by the company before an official number is assigned. A CUSIP which is short for Committee on Uniform Securities, and Identification Procedures. Contains nine numbers that are unique from any other number, which identifies each and every single security. A dummy CUSIP is a set of numbers assigned to a stock prior to it being legally registered to be traded. The company assigns a dummy CUSIP for identification reasons temporarily, before the official number is registered. This is only for internal reasons by the company and not for public use. |
