International funds usually have lower operating costs and a higher minimum investment than retail funds often their main objective is to reduce risk so they invest in hundreds of different securities, which makes them among the most diversified funds available. They do not tend to trade in securities very often as they are able to keep operating costs to a minimum. Therefore, in the past many investors typically needed a least one million in order to invest in this type of fund.
