Securities and Exchange Commission This is what the SEC stands for and it is an agency that is responsible for regulating the securities industry. This is a federal organization and it has full power to protect those who are investing against anything that could be considered illegal or even manipulative. There are a number of different Acts that outline the power that the SEC has, but mainly the organization supervised all of the trading that is going on in order to ensure that everything is done fairly.
