One of the largest investment companies in the world is the Capitol Group Companies. This one firm has assets in excess of one trillion UDS and includes an entire group of investment companies whose offices span the globe. The entire group is composed of a number of different investment companies like Capital Research, American Funds and Capital Bank.

Capitol Group Investment was founded nearly a century ago by Jonathan Bell Lovelace from Alabama. Originally trained as an architect he started work at an investment company and eventually founded his own firm, that would grow into the Capital Group Companies.

The company is now located in Los Angeles, California, and has well over 8,000 trained associates to oversee their client's needs and 21 offices world wide. Capital Group has offices in Geneva, London, Tokyo, and Hong Kong, Mumbai and Singapore and a brand new campus located in Irvine, California. It has had setbacks in the last few years, like most investment companies due to the economic downturn and sagging markets and has had to reduce it?s staff somewhat. The company manages money for wealthy individuals and involves itself in a great number of private equity investments.

A very influential company, Capital Group was voted the third best work place in the greater Los Angeles area in 2006. They manage a great selection of mutual funds and are, in fact, the largest group of mutual funds in the U.S., exceeding such giants as The Vanguard Group and Fidelity Invests, with over $1.3 trillion in assets over the last couple of years before the economy went south.

Capital Group Investments has been named in a study done by the science journal Physical Review E as the most powerful controlling shareholder in the global markets as it has a stake in more than 36 countries.
