1040 Tax Preparation

Do you have to file taxes? If you're a US citizen or a resident alien you in all probability need to file and pay your taxes.

Taxpayers who must file their tax return are those that earned an income, get government retiree credit, had an additional child, is a first-time home-buyer, has received any refundable credit from the previous year's taxes, and has any health coverage. Even in the unlikely chance you do not need to file a tax return, you should still file because you may receive a refund.

While some people may qualify to use the simpler Form 1040EZ or 1040A - the majority of taxpayers do not. The hardest of all the tax return forms to file your taxes with is the plain US Individual Income Tax Return Form 1040. Nearly three-quarters of all US-based tax payers fill out this form version, and it's the longest and most difficult of the forms to complete. Inthe unlikely event that a person cannot file their taxes on time, a person can apply for a 6-month extension. However, in order to qualify for this, they must either live outside the United States or be in the military and/or naval service.

Before a person starts to fill out their 1040 Tax Return Form, they need all the names, W-2s, and personal information about the dependents under their care. They also need to have the 1099 and 1098 forms from their employers. By gathering this information is advance, it helps in preventing errors.

Form 1099 is basically divided into four parts: demographic information, income earned with the year (which includes all taxable refunds, IRA distributions, pensions, and annuities), adjustment, and itemizations.

However, there are ways to simplifying this process. Taxes can be prepared by using tax help software like TurboTax or TaxCut. These handy computer programs can help keep the stress down and help prevent errors with filling out the form. Nonetheless, if a person does not want to do their taxes themselves, they can always hire a tax accountant or service to do it for them. Nearly half of all Americans uses some sort of tax preparation service but the price of using such services can be costly. Prices depend on the complexity of your tax returns and they can hurt your wallet.

Filing with a 1040 Form may be hard and stressful, but it is not impossible. By planning ahead of time and keeping all your needed paperwork organized - filling out your tax returns can become a quickly finished job.
